State Group Meet

So some strong showings were put in at the state sectional meet. Congratulations to the girls 4x400 who ran a season best, and raced their way to the next level. Andres managed to qualify in the 55 Dash although he almost missed the start of the finals. Eleana Little and Stefan Stark both raced well in the 3200 and qualified for the competition this weekend. Great Job!

Finally, congratulations are also in order for Jon Friedel who dropped his 800 time considerably and also qualified for the State meet. Can he break 2:00 minutes? I think he might be able to. Talking to him after the race he said going into the third lap he was struggling to keep up the pace he has set and then he said to himself just keep going and see what happens. What happened was a fantastic finish and a huge PB. Go to Coach McCaff's blog (holmdelxc.blogspot.com) to see video of the race. There is a lesson to be learned there. Running is not rocket science. It is just a matter of saying to yourself I know it is going to be uncomfortable, but I'm going to push myself today and see what happens. Everyday you have to do that. Every practice you have to do that. Some of you who ran poorly at the meet should think about this. A month ago, Jon was barely on the radar when it came to the 800, and now he is running at the State meet. Is he doing extra workouts that no one else on the team is doing? No, he is going to the same practices and running the same workouts, but he is there physically and mentally everyday with a goal in mind. Everyone may not be able to run the same times that he is running, but everyone can be improving the way he is if they put in the work. Most of the time it isn't the big distractions, like school work or family activities, that get in the way. Most of the time it is the little things that we let distract us - like wanting to hang out instead of going to practice, or just letting ourselves take it easy because it was a "bad day". Put those distractions aside, set a goal, and stay focused on it.

A NOTE TO THE GIRLS SPRING TRACK TEAM - fundraising money can be turned in to me anytime today so that you don't have to hold on to it over the weekend, but you can keep selling until next Wed the 18th. On the 18th, Mr. Ralston from Varsity Gold will be here to collect all of your order forms and the money. We will meet in room 601 from 2:00 to 5:00 to collect everything and hand out any prizes. Keep selling! Even selling one or two more boxes helps us raise money for the team. Thanks.
